Resilience, Empathy, Authenticity, Passion — these are values that I hold on to dearly, and values which I reckon are pivotal in order to REAP a great success in the 21st century world that we live in today.Resilience tides us through tough and challenging times // Empathy adds a personal touch and establishes intrinsic human connection // Authenticity reinforces our beliefs and builds trust // Passion drives motivation and innovation in us.However, more than just striving for success, I strongly believe in living a life of significance. As an individual, I prize character building and development — both in and of myself, as well as with the people I interact with. In the same way that my preceding generation has invested in me and guided me, I believe that I too, have the responsibility to continue sowing into the lives of others, and in the following generations to come.As an aspiring Occupational Therapist, I look forward to playing my part in giving back to my society by contributing to the nation’s healthcare and social care efforts.Occupational Therapy is the pursuit of enablement and meaning in the lives of others, despite and in spite of disabilities. It calls for authentic interactions and deep insight into the lives and perspectives of our clients — and I will be more than privileged to play a key role in their reintegration back into society and return to their daily occupations. This quote from former AOTA President, Ginny Stoffel, echoes deep within my heart, “Occupational therapy practitioners ask, ‘What matters to you?’, not, ‘What’s the matter with you?’”— to love and to serve.
