I researched and wrote four chapters of the first edition of Cycling France.This provided valuable insight into the responsibilities and pressures faced by guidebook authors. The experience informed my relations with authors and led to me making more author-friendly style guides and author briefs.

Working for the Sheep & Wool Institute, within the Queensland Department of Primary Industries, I wrote media releases and brochures, advised staff on setting up public information displays and edited the staff newsletter The Wool Yarn. Liaised with scientists to produce information tailored to the target audience, be it the general public, primary producers or politicians.

I worked for the Media and Information Unit, Queensland Department of Environment, editing Park Management Plans and media releases. I also advised staff on creating a brochure and supporting documents for an environmental public information campaign; and wrote material for the department’s new website.
