Customer Service Co-Ordinator

Hedge End

I was responsible for bringing wine into the UK, from predominantly ‘new world’ countries on behalf of four different customers. I would converse with my customers at the start of the week as to what orders they have raised with various wineries, then I would confirm the required preparation time with the winery and book vessel space with the most preferable shipping line. It was important for me to be in constant communication with foreign offices, the respective wineries and of course the customers to ensure everyone is pulling in the same direction to achieve the RDD’s set. Upon arrival into the UK, I would have the appropriate documentation organised and then sent off for customs clearance. Once clearance was obtained, I'd be working with the bottling warehouses, who at the behest of the customer would dictate delivery dates, once aware of booking requirements I would arrange haulage. I predominantly railed containers to depots close to the bottling plant using various rail and road haulage companies, when railing containers it was important for me to ensure that I rail the containers within X amount of days to keep Port costs down to a minimum for the customer. Upon container offload I then organised the hauliers into returning the containers to appropriate depots for the restitution process. In my time with Trans Ocean I built and maintained strong relationships with the individuals I both work with and on behalf of . In addition to building strong relationships I learnt how to self-manage myself effectively and also learnt how to set up reports for both myself and customers using the Axis system which enabled me to track key points in the logistics journey. By tracking these key points I identified and prevented potential problems before they occur.

Volunteer

Winchester

On Friday evenings I volunteered for the Street Reach organisation and helped run a football project which takes young people aged 12-18 off the street to play football. The project keeps them occupied and gives them something to do. My role there is to organisation and enthuse young people and make them want to engage with the project, help referee the small matches they play and be a friendly face for young people who may want some advice on issues they may be facing in their lives. The project entails thinking on my feet, being on the go and active at all times.

Volunteer

Nepal

I travelled to Kathmandu, Nepal to teach Maths and English to students based at a Buddhist Monastery. The students were aged 8-16. Many of the students in the classes levels of English and Maths skills were very varied, this meant when I came in to the role, I had to very quickly assess how fluent each student was in English and establish a program of study which was tailored to the strongest and weakest student in each class, a program which would test each and every student. It was important to get to know each student quickly, so I could work out how to teach them, what they responded well too and how much I could try to push them without overstretching them. When I arrived at the Monastery I found that there was no student syllabus in place, therefore there was no protocol or template in what information I need to teach, to combat this I took the time to draw up my own syllabus of where I wanted each student and each class to get to with their English in the two months I was there, and then I take the time to write up my lesson plans accordingly. This role involved a great deal of flexibility, because with young people, you need to be able to adapt, not be repetitive and keep it varied. During my time at the Monastery I was one of four teachers in place at the time, and to provide a schedule and path for the group on day one, I decided to decipher a timetable of teaching, allocating each teacher lesson time with each class. In doing this I tried my best to ensure each teacher had equal time teaching each of the 3 classes. I believe this to be the best experience I have so far undertaken, as it was something I did on own and in a country with customs and values which were the polar opposite to mine, my time in Nepal took me out of my comfort zone, tested me and taught me the value of organise a project from scratch and overseeing it successfully to the end, even if the role is undertaken in circumstances totally different to what would be faced in the UK

Sales Associate

Winchester

At Debenhams I started out as a Christmas temp, but impressed with my capability and calm demeanour, as well as achieving high competence myself, I believe my people skills and leadership allowed those around me to flourish also. During my last 12 months in this role, I was the highest account opener in store, meaning I sold more account cards to our customers than any other employee in my store. I believe I achieved this accolade because I am good with people and have the ability to establish a good rapport with them, I often felt with customers I could evaluate what they wanted from the us as a store, and then having done this efficiently provide it for them. Due to my success in selling the store account cards, I was asked by management to go and train new members of staff and those who lacked selling confidence in this area. On top of this another key responsibility I was given by management, was leading my department in their absence which I did on many occasions, most notably the busy Saturday shifts.

Porter

Sparsholt

My role was that of a porter, so I would be the first person that the guests saw at the hotel, so it was important for me to have a welcoming and friendly demeanour. I would then take the guests and their luggage to the rooms they were staying in, whilst explaining where everything was located in the hotel and what amenities were available to them. I learnt very quickly from this role that providing excellent customer service was key to success.Lainston House was a hotel which as well as taking guests for overnight stays, hosted wedding receptions and business conferences. One of my key roles as porters was organising and preparing conference and wedding rooms, to do this I had to push a number of other key individuals into undertaking activities promptly and efficiently, for example I had to get bar staff to ensure tea and biscuits were prepared for a certain time, ensure the cleaners had the rooms cleaned and hovered early in the morning whilst also upholding my own responsibilities. My responsibilities for such events were to work out how many people were attending each function, how many chairs were needed, what table set up would be most appropriate, then I would have to provide note pads, pens, pencils, set up television sets if needed, put up white boards and connect overhead projects etc. Often the clients didn’t provide a brief of what set up they needed, so I had to use my initiative on what would be required for each occasion.
