• Designed and developed a new messaging, logging, and storage solution for Amazon buying systems to replace a current solution that was unable to continue to scale. The new solution increased reliability, scalability, and speed while also saving over $200,000 annually in resource costs by using AWS Kinesis, Athena, Lambda, and S3.• Extended the internal ordering process workflow to generate and expose valuable data points via AWS DynamoDB for consumption by other internal teams representing warehouses, order fulfillment, and vendor selection. These data objects allow internal customers to streamline their own internal operations, leading to increases in productivity and significant reductions in resources needed by those teams to derive their own targets.• Integrated an entirely new paradigm of customer demand representation into the order modeling system that processes all buying decisions across all of Amazon retail. This created a more geographically precise model for determining economic value for the entire ordering process, which lead to an increase in local availability of items of over 2% across the entire North American market. The savings on shipping costs and increase in customer satisfaction was projected to be over 1% of current retail profitability.• Created an interactive UI using React to demonstrate the new paradigm for demand representation. This aided in both gaining customer confidence in the new project as well as educating managers and internal buying teams on the intricacies of the new system

• Led a small development team from architecture and design through delivery of a web application to allow customers to find tires for their vehicles at GM dealerships in the United States. This effort replaced an existing legacy application which had strict requirements. In addition to designing the system, Sam served as the lead developer where he pushed the team to use the latest technologies and frameworks including Spring, Jersey, JPA and AngularJS. The project was delivered on time and on budget and provides an annual estimated return to the company of $3 million. • Assumed a role as lead developer for lead management in online service scheduling. Ramped up to being subject expert quickly and successfully delivered new versions within the first three months in the new position. • Mentored and assisted new college hires to quickly acclimate them and maximize their productivity and potential.• Successfully in-sourced applications by working with the business owners and outside contractors. While contractors who are losing business can at times be difficult to work with, Sam has striven to maintain professional and cordial relationships with the vendors. • Developed new accounting software for quickly estimating future warranty costs based on current information. Data for the projections are sourced from numerous different divisions of GM and 3 outside vendors, with often unreliable compatibility between systems. Sam developed systems to predicatively isolate bad data before it corrupts any other data and can be quickly discovered and addressed. • Implemented tools to assist in development, such as a code review system, a Jenkins build system, and an autodeployment functionality for WebLogic servers.
