I have been with InSite Remediation Services full-time since completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental) at UOW in 2015. InSite are a specialist site remediation contractor, developing and implementing strategies to deal with contaminated soil and groundwater.My first role at InSite was a Site Technician, cutting my teeth learning how to maintain and operate water treatment systems, as well as involvement in large scale civil projects including demolition and remediation of UPSS infrastructure at leading petrochemical terminals in Sydney and Newcastle. I was then able to transition into a Site Supervisor role, and then ultimately Project Management of these large scale civil works over the ensuing years. I feel that to have the best grasp on the contaminated land and remediation industry, this upbringing through InSite was vital to instilling knowledge and skills about all facets of remediation, namely water, soil and structures.In the last 3-years, my role within the company has progressed onto Systems Engineer and Project Management, leaning on skills of water treatment and chemistry developed at university. During this time, InSite have developed a host of bespoke water treatment systems able to target a myriad of contaminants of concern. These include Hydrocarbons, PFAS, Heavy Metals, Ammonia and TKN just to name a few of the common ones. This has been achieved through the principles of adsorption technologies (PAC, GAC, IX Resins), chemical precipitation and filtration, multi-phase extraction (MPE), soil vapour extraction (SVE) and catalytic oxidation, simple pump-and-treat systems and breakpoint chlorination. There is nothing we can't do and that's an attitude that I have loved adopting - it lets us continually progress our knowledge, and find new ways to tackle the problems involved in providing a cleaner environment for both us in the present, and future generations.I am looking forward to the years ahead in such a rewarding industry.Outside of work, its the 3 G's.
