I tried to be a sportswriter. I failed. I didn’t fail because I can’t write. To the contrary, I know now more than ever that I can write. I failed because I was already in love with my subject (KU Basketball) and I don’t want to take the magic out of sports. Once it became a job, I no longer enjoyed it. I no longer wanted it. I became so cynical that I was convinced coaches weren’t trying to win games. But I learned about myself. My failed venture as a sportswriter let me know that following my passion doesn’t work for me. As soon as I get what I want, I want something else. So I have to bring my passion with me (Thanks Mike Rowe).
