After having an unconventional start to my career as an Architectural Technologist, I have now recently graduated and completed an Architectural Technology degree at Anglia Ruskin University. I graduated with honours in 2023. In 2015, I was taken on by my current employer as an apprentice, with no prior knowledge or experience in the field. Here, I was introduced to Autodesk Revit and was taught on the job. Using Revit, I have been producing plans, elevations and sections for Planning Purposes. After successfully completing the apprenticeship, I was kept on as an Architectural Assistant. It was at this point, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in this industry and to give myself the best opportunities and chances going forward, I decided to enrol at University as a part-time student to obtain a degree. I did this part-time because I wanted to continue working full-time in practice as I feel this is the best way to learn and gain valuable knowledge and experience. After enrolling in 2017, I subsequently spent the next 6 years studying, whilst working full-time as a Junior Architectural Technologist. During my career so far, I have completed drawings for many types of projects, predominately in the residential sector. From small scale extensions and loft conversions, to new build schemes. This has allowed me to develop my skills using Autodesk Revit and other software like Lumion for 3D visualisations. I also have experience drawing using Pointcloud data. I have also completed Design and Access Statements to support planning applications for new build schemes. Currently, after expressing keen interest to develop myself further, as I do want to work towards Chartership with the CIAT. I am now completing drawings for Building Regulations Approval. This has allowed me to develop my technical drawing ability and understanding further.
