About Sam Lorenz
Sam Lorenz is a Game Designer | Previously Hi-Rez at Final Strike Games. He possess expertise in marketing, html, photography, microsoft excel, microsoft office and 14 more skills. Colleagues describe him as "I had the pleasure of working closely with Sam. for just over a year during his tenure as a Game Designer at Hi-Rez Ventures, where he reported directly to me as his lead. Sam is an exceptional designer whose relentless drive, technical expertise, and collaborative spirit make him a standout contributor to any team. Sam was a driving force behind several key projects, including the development of an unannounced Unreal 5 game, as well as major contributions to Rogue Company. On the unannounced title, Sam designed and prototyped over half of the gameplay features, such as champion abilities, team-based game modes, and gunplay polish. He consistently pioneered new systems in blueprints, setting the foundation for the rest of the team to build upon. On Rogue Company, Sam's initiative was equally impressive. Amid scaled-back support, he single-handedly shipped multiple patches, including launching a new Rogue, new weapons, and limited-time game modes—all while working with an engineer to resolve backend issues. One of Sam’s standout qualities is his mastery of Unreal Engine 5. Not only did he implement complex systems in a very short time, but he also voluntarily served as a mentor to the team, teaching Unreal Engine workflows, asset pipelines, and source control functionality. His technical expertise and willingness to share knowledge were pivotal in onboarding team members and accelerating project progress. Sam is creative and can quickly identify the core challenges of a system and develop solutions that are both innovative and feasible. His fearless attitude towards prototyping new systems, even without prior frameworks or guidance, enabled the team to make significant strides in the early stages of projects. In addition to his technical skills, Sam is an exemplary team player with a cheerful and optimistic demeanor. He is highly receptive to feedback, consistently seeking to refine his work to align with the team’s vision. His collaborative mindset and positive attitude make him a pleasure to work with, and his humility ensures that his contributions serve the broader goals of the team. Sam’s track record of success, combined with his deep understanding of systems design and his ability to mentor and lead by example, make him an excellent fit for game design roles. Whether it’s pitching and prototyping new features, balancing complex systems, or mentoring junior designers, Sam has consistently demonstrated the skills and adaptability required to excel in the game development industry. I highly recommend Sam for a position on any team that values innovation, technical proficiency, and collaborative teamwork. He will undoubtedly be an asset to any studio fortunate enough to have him on board.", "I brought Sam on as a Tech Art Intern when I was GM of Hi-Rez’s central services content support team and his talent, range, and passion for gaming stood out immediately. As an intern, he was undaunted and I quickly came to understand that Sam could handle a wide range of tasks, and he had a hunger to learn and develop. In his 3 month internship, Sam shifted into more of a Technical Designer as it became clear that tech art was more the vehicle to his design talents. More impressively, Sam did programming and other tasks in his desire to design games, and he would readily jump in on anything that moved the project forward. After his graduation, I worked to bring Sam back as a designer, and I couldn’t have been more pleased to see how he just continued to develop and impress. The centralized group was deployed to game teams not long after Sam re-joined us, and he went first to Rogue Company, where he quickly showed himself to be a very hands-on designer who was quick to prototype and test, pitch ideas, and help refine overall gameplay. Sam evolved on the team to a game variant prototype strike team, where his range and ability to pick up new things continued to shine. Sam went on to design on Paladins, and then Smite/Smite 2. Perhaps one of the strongest testaments to Sam through his career at Hi-Rez was that at each of those stops, I got the Sam feedback from every EP along the lines of “I see what you mean about Sam” and “really smart guy who really knows games;” Sam made the same impression he did with me wherever he went in the company. Sam is young in his game development career, but that only means there is a ton more he is going to do. I would highly recommend Sam and I look forward to collaborating with him again.", and "Working with Sam has been an absolute pleasure. From the start, it was clear how passionate and committed he is to his craft. Sam constantly seeks feedback on his designs and is always available to address any questions or challenges that arise. His presence in our playtests was invaluable, not only for his positive energy but also for his ability to capture essential gameplay feels feedback. His expertise in Unreal Engine was a tremendous asset to our team, allowing us to elevate our work. I highly recommend Sam to any team looking for a talented and driven Game Designer!"
