Hello, my name is Sam Musselman. I grew up on an acreage in northwest Iowa near the small town of Lytton. Growing up I worked as a farm hand at Carlson Farms most summers. I graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in chemical engineering and a minor in sustainability. While at school and during the summers, I had the opportunity to hold positions that are pertinent to my career. I participated in the Griswold Internship program at Iowa State University. This paid internship allowed me to work for a professor in their lab. I worked for Dr. Cochran conducting research on biopolymer modification. I also have had rewarding internships with AGP (methyl-ester intern) and POET (plant engineering intern). There I learned a great deal about industrial processes, interpersonal skills, and project management. I am currently employed as a Division Engineer at Grain Processing Corporation (GPC) in Muscatine, Iowa. I conduct project work for the Feed Recovery department to further optimize and increase production and safety in the process. I was drawn to chemical engineering and the careers that come with it because of my interest in biorenewables, energy systems, and chemical manufacturing.
