For constructions sites I had to observe water mains pressure testing, water mains laying, service connections and wastewater works. This meant ensuring that health and safety aspects were meet continually on site and making sure that correct working practices were followed.I had to have a depth of knowledge in all these fields so that I was understood on site-by-site agents and UCP’s who usually had years of experience and sometimes tried to mislead me with false information. With individual customers I ensured that I simplified complex details such as material type required and pressure within our network. By doing this I felt that customers understood the information I was providing rather than coming away from a prestart meeting confused. If I met customers on site who had a negative attitude. In the field service role, I was also required to cover a standby Rota. This was necessary to ensure that Scottish Water's network was working 24/7. On standby I was often tasked with shutting down large and small water mains correctly and safely. It was also important to have good level of problem-solving skills to work out why a customer didn't have a water supply or why a customer had low pressure. In one case a customer phone and said their water pressure had dropped dramatically, upon investigation I found that the boundary box where the customers private pipe met the Scottish water communication pipe was leaking heavily. The resolution to this was to call our standby squad and have then relace the boundary box which fixed the low pressure for the customer. Sometimes it was the case where I would be called out in the early hours of the morning, so I had to ensure that even at these times, as well as completing the job safely and quickly, that the customer experience was always maintained Show less

The work packs had to include utility drawings and cover sheet with the works to be carried out. I would get the utility drawings by using the coordinates given to me by the NSO’s and put them into the different utility search engines, Gas, Electricity, Water and Sewers. I was occasionally asked to call the Network Officers to collect information and details about certain jobs such as if certain jobs would have to be out of hours or if traffic management would be required for the job to be completed safely. Within this role I gained communication skills by liaising with the NSO’s and my other colleagues to complete the work packs and the use of different desktop programs which included Word, Excel, GIS and Optimum Show less

Sports Coach

Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom

I was tasked with delivering active sports classes to various ages of kid’s groups. The classes had to be specific to each age group and so required careful planning. Also, whilst delivering each session it was important to be motivating and engaging. Time keeping was massively important as some days I could have 3-4 different classes and had to ensure each session finished and started at the correct time.
