I lead the day to coordination of monitoring and evaluation of a number of high large national infrastructure projects. This included monitoring and evaluation framework design, client and partner communications, analysis, and reporting.I led on using and refining a location and spatial analysis based methodology designed in-house to model volumes of usage on each new scheme. I also led on identifying patterns and correlations between different scheme typologies and outcomes, statistically testing the data and presenting this to colleagues. An integral outcome of this was undertaking economic appraisals using DfT WebTag methodology.I oversaw the day to running of our qualitative evaluation of community involvement and engagement in our projects. This involved both designing the evaluation methodology and undertaking data capture by running focus groups with beneficiaries and stakeholder interviews with delivery and funding partners. As well as using MS Office 2010 I have used a number of bespoke online databases and survey software packages, the statistics computer programme R and the GIS software MapInfo and Earthlight.

This included:- undertaking economic appraisals of our schemes using DfT WebTag methodology- reviewing current appraisal methods and an extensive review and critique of a selection of major road project appraisals, such as the Replacement Forth Crossing- working with the University of Central Lancashire to update and utilise a jointly developed Cycle Tourism Economic Impact Model.I also worked on two modelling projects. One for the North East Active Travel consortium which was designed to demonstrate the economic savings which could be made to the NHS PCTs in the North East through investing in active travel programmes as a health intervention tool. The second was for the Passenger Transport Executive Group who commissioned us to model the impacts and economic benefits of investing in cycling and walking infrastructure in the PTE areas.

Apr 2010 - Aug 2011

Researcher

London, United Kingdom

I worked on the Cities Outlook 2010 Report, including sourcing and analysing data for the report as well as contributing to the logic framework and project plan. As part of this I developed a methodology for presenting the environmental performance of cities. I also contributed extensively to a new section on Multi Area Agreements, including mapping, socio-economic profiling and writing sections of the final report. On both of these topics I undertook research before presenting to my colleagues.I was involved with other work such as a commissioned report for the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire to recommend growth strategies for the region. This involved economic data gathering and resulting profiling and mapping, identifying research areas and undertaking consultations with stakeholders. I contributed to the design of the stakeholder evaluation in terms of targeting who to interview and creating questions to provide us with the required information.I also worked on a number of presentations and press releases - including a quick release policy position on unemployment after each JSA statistics data release as part of our labour market analysis and commentary.I thoroughly enjoyed working on briefings for senior colleagues prior to media appearances and ministerial meetings.During my time at the Centre for Cities developed the online resource City Tracker, showing up to date economic data and trends for 64 Primary Urban Areas. I was responsible uploading the data to maintain this website, as well as writing the descriptions and characteristic of each PUA.The Centre for Cities also commissioned a bespoke data provision service from a private third party and I contributed to the identification of our data needs and whether the system on offer would be beneficial to the organisation. During some of my time at the Centre I worked part-time as PA to the Chief Executive at the time, Dermot Finch. A reference letter from him is attached.
