I am a registered nurse with 35 years experience. My professional focus has been in the long term care industry. I began my nursing career 35 years ago working med-surg and oncology. I was quickly promoted to Director of the hospital SNF unit. From there, I worked as Directed of Nursing (DON) for 2 facilities before taking a job as MDS coordinator for VFMC which is the Louisiana Department of Health state owned facility. From there, I transferred to LDH/HSS as a State Nursing Home surveyor. I was promoted to the Nursing Home Compliant Desk and added the job of MDS Coordinator for the State of Louisiana. From there I transferred back to VFMC in the position of Director of Nursing. During my leadership at the facility, we received the first deficiency free survey in the history of the facility. After serving in the capacity of DON for 7 years and reaching retirement status, I stepped down from the DON position, but have remained at the facility as Infection Control Coordinator and presently as Quality Assurance Manager.
