Assignments with SVCL include: Provision of specialist support to BP following the failure of the Glen Lyon FPSO’s power and control swivel, that occurred during turret integration at the FPSO construction yard in Ulsan, South Korea. Led BP’s failure investigation and oversaw the necessary modifications, refurbishment in Europe as well as re-installation and commissioning at the yard. Supported various other turret-related issues during this period.Provision of Turret & Mooring System training courses for the BP Glen Lyon FPSO offshore production and maintenance personnel. Prepared and presented a series of two-day training courses to provide a general overview as well as details of the facilities and the associated maintenance and operating requirements.Provision of specialist engineering and operations support throughout the BP Glen Lyon FPSO’s start-up, ramp-up / shake down early operating phases.Completed a temporary assignment with Lloyds Register in Aberdeen to provide specialist engineering support during a period of high workload. Conducted design and compliance reviews of technical documents relating to various FPSO Turret and general oilfield mechanical equipment and packages.Contracted by Worley in Aberdeen to provide package engineering support during FEED for the Talbot tie-back to the Chrysaor Judy platform.

Working for BP on a direct contract basis as part of their Turret & Mooring System Team for the Quad 204 (Glen Lyon) FPSO. The team worked alongside SBM Offshore’s discipline engineering and delivery teams in Monaco. Responsible for mechanical equipment within the TMS scope and ensuring that the specifications, design, manufacture and testing met the project and company requirements. Equipment included the swivel stack and associated systems, turret weathervaning bearing system, riser and anchor integrity monitoring, system, installation winch, handling equipment and the other mechanical and hydraulic packages installed within a large internal turret. Providing support to yards for construction, integration and commissioning activities. Also responsible for the identification and qualification of new technologies and items where existing technology was considered ‘stretched’.

Providing mechanical engineering services to Oil & Gas clients. Assignments with MCL include: Providing mechanical engineering services to Petrofac Limited in Aberdeen. Responsible for package engineering of electric process heaters, hydrocyclone upgrades and reconfiguring existing HVAC facilities as part of the Devenick tie-back to the East Brae platform. Providing mechanical engineering services to Talisman Energy (UK) Limited in Aberdeen. Working within Talisman’s Facilities Engineering Team as the nominated Competent Mechanical Engineer. Responsible for various facilities modifications and projects from initial problem solving and concept development through to offshore implementation by the engineering contractor or specialist vendor. Providing expertise and support to the asset operations teams as required. The position involved site visits to the offshore installations.

Working for BP in Sunbury and reporting to the FPSO Engineering Team Leader. Responsible for mechanical aspects of marine, topsides and turret engineering (excluding rotating equipment) for BP’s programme of deepwater FPSO developments in Angola Blocks 18 and 31. At this time the programme included 4 (external) turret moored, VLCC conversion FPSOs of standardised design. Responsibilities included supporting the FPSO contractor evaluation and selection process and ensuring that the mechanical equipment and facilities were engineered and delivered to BP’s requirements.

Working for BP in Aberdeen and reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Team Leader. Responsible for mechanical aspects of marine, topsides and turret facilities (excluding gas turbines) for BP’s Schiehallion FPSO. Responsibilities included ensuring safety case / performance standard compliance, providing day-to-day mechanical support, ongoing initiatives to improve integrity, safety, plant availability and performance. Supporting planning process. Mechanical modifications. Liaison with vendors and subcontractors. Representative on BP’s emergency response team. The position involved trips to the FPSO.

Working for Weir Engineering Services and seconded to BP in Aberdeen as "Pump Coordinator" for the Greater Forties Field. Responsible for the integrity, performance and reliability of all pumping equipment on the nine platforms that formed Greater Forties. Providing day-to-day technical support and troubleshooting as well as various initiatives to improve the equipment mean time between failures and reduce lifecycle costs. Offshore visits to Forties Alpha and Delta, Montrose, Arbroath and Andrew installations.

Working for Weir Pumps Ltd in Glasgow. Responsibilities as a Design Engineer (see below) but with authority to issue working documents and engineering instructions. Troubleshooting technical problems, both at site and within the Glasgow workshop.Appointed Project Engineer for several major projects with responsibility for technical and contractual / commercial aspects of assigned project.

Responsible for handling technical aspects of new product and standard variant designs. Providing technical support to the Sales and Engineering Services Divisions and the shop floor. Working closely with a Layout Draftsman to produce a design layout drawing. Preparation of equipment specifications. Rotating equipment and pressure boundary design calculations. Review of client's technical specifications.
