I am currently a Senior RA with the experimental team at the Allen Institute for Cell Science. A large part of my job is contributing to quality control of our gene edited hiPSC lines: ensuring that they remain healthy, looking for morphological differences and confirming localization of our fluorescently tagged proteins. I determine whether our gene edited lines are producing proteins that localize where we would expect inside the cell, and that signal intensity is reasonable enough to quantify via light microscopy and western blots for quantification. We are using our cell lines to further study organization of structures within the cell in different states, such cells undergoing mitosis and differentiation. I am currently spending much of my time studying how cellular structures are reorganizing during EMT.My first few years at the Allen Institute were spent performing cell culture, immunofluorescence and running western blots. My current tasks are most often related to confocal imaging, managing one of our experimental labs, spearheading image workup of our cell catalog images for the website, and organizing our extremely large datasets related to EMT.When I graduated in June of 2017, my ultimate goal was to be a part of something bigger than myself. More specifically, I wanted to be a part of something bigger in science. Everyone here is so exited about what we do and we want to share it with the world. I strive to expand upon my current skills and further develop them with the Allen Institute; I love being a part of big team science.
