I went in to the museum field because I wasn't sure where I wanted to live but I knew there was a museum in just about every town. It was intriguing to think I could touch the things that were behind glass and off limits to everyone else.I fell in love with historic buildings during my graduate school internship at the Tallac Historic Site, South Lake Tahoe, CA. It was here that I began to understand the power of interpretation to connect with visitors on many different levels. At the Gatekeeper's Museum in Tahoe City I was lucky to spend time with the expansive Native American basketry collection. I was active in the local museum networks, historical societies and interpretive associations. At Thanksgiving Point Institute I honed my event planning and execution skills, as well as people management in a high stress setting. At Wheeler Historic Farm I was hired as Historic Preservation Manager and joked that I only had to keep the dead things dead. Be careful what you say--I was soon asked to take over the whole Farm. Now I am fluent in: veterinarian, historic preservation, retail, programming, events and museum collections.
