In this role as Chairperson of the Board, I help to lead a collaborative global trusted forum that brings industry together to help fight and prevent online abuse through strategic partnerships, solutions and actions.

The Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG) is a global nonprofit organization founded to develop effective models to combat online threats such as botnets, phishing, malware, spam and denial-of-service attacks to protect individuals, organizations and national economies from online abuse through cross-sector collaboration. M3AAWG’s multidisciplinary approach includes the development of industry best practices, education, technical statements on public policy and legislation, and the facilitation of global collaboration.As an officer of the Board, I work to create, clarify, communicate, and act on the strategic vision of the 200+ member organization. Individually within this role, I conceptualize and support robust meeting programming, develop great leaders within the anti-abuse and cybersecurity industries, and contribute to community thought leadership to make the Internet a safer, more resilient environment for all users.

In this role, I am directly responsible for Leadership development within the Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG). In achieving these goals, I develop, coordinate and deliver training, perform individual and group consultation, and identify mechanisms and opportunities to advance the organization through strategic leadership development.

Developed, communicated and executed strategic, visionary direction for Return Path's Certification and Compliance programs, which define and uphold rigorous standards and best common practices in email marketing services. Standardized Compliance processes reducing sales and client friction and retaining multi-million dollars in revenue.Launched verification controls to address business impact due to GDPR.Developed and produced monthly metrics & KPIs in a big data environment, analyzing and reporting program performance and anomalies.Detected and mitigated compromises originating from client email servers and architecture.Evangelized required adoption of email authentication technologies including SPF, DKIM, & DMARC to protect brands and email recipients.Formalized capacity plans for a team of 15 direct and downline employees, managing cross-functional evolution in a high-velocity change environment.

- Responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans to perform malware and virus remediation and prevention across 5M+ customer base.- Architected and drove automation efforts to perform 1M+ automated investigations monthly.- Enabled automated identification, notification, and remediation capabilities for endpoints affected by malicious software, averaging 30K+/day.- Collaborated with industry experts, identifying and addressing emerging threats to internet, corporate, and enterprise infrastructure.- Initiated, conceptualized, and justified high-impact projects, such as the development of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and Static IP Walled Garden efforts.- Presented case studies in automated malware remediation, leading to informational RFC 6561.- Created a primary and redundant malware lab environment to develop automated self-help malware removal instructions. - Employee mentoring, coaching, and management: focus on employee engagement, encouraging self-seek and strive to achieve goals in interest areas and broadening technical exposure.

In this position, I managed multiple teams of engineers who were separately responsible for customer security management and response. These teams managed customer firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention systems, and performed Acceptable Use Policy/Terms of Service enforcement along with handling emergency and non-emergency IP legal demand requests. Accomplishments include:- Actively coached and supervised a team of 17 employees in resolving nearly one million abuse complaints per month in an ISP and backbone provider environment.- Launched immediate 24/7 emergency security response, eliminating on-call responsibilities and saving thousands of dollars monthly in connectivity and communication costs without increase in headcount or personnel costs.- Identified and enabled resources to be applied to log review of Dragon IDS sensors.- Documented and maintained Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity plans.- Empowered team of employees to develop sensible solutions, drive improvements, and display sound decision making practices, by providing individual coaching and feedback based on business need and employees’ strengths.

Responsible for Acceptable Use Policy enforcement and complaint handling, driving rehabilitation efforts through customers and ensuring a positive public image through managing a clean ISP/NSP network.- Utilized Unix shell commands to access modem authentication log files.- Leveraged ArcSight SIEM in detection and mitigation of Distributed Denial-of-Service attacks affecting client networks- Orchestrated the migration of 200+ CheckPoint 4.1 to NG-AI firewall upgrades on Nokia appliances.- Developed and fostered relationships with third party blacklist owners, ISPs, and backbone providers, assisting to establish Qwest as a responsible ISP who actively enforces AUPs.
