Represented Commission Staff and the public interest in administrative applications and contested cases involving water, sewer, telecom and electric utilities before the Commission and the State Office of Administrative Hearings; managed a caseload of over three dozen projects and contested cases with varying degrees of complexity; worked with Staff experts and other attorneys to prepare filings and ensure deadlines were met; researched, drafted, reviewed pleadings, testimony, briefs, and other filings; and participated in mediation and negotiated settlements.

Advised staff and the public on legal matters and interpretation of applicable laws, prepared and conducted administrative hearings or mediation before SOAH for notaries public and athlete agent actions, investigated alleged violations, researched for policy and process questions, led audits and assisted in crafting internal guidelines, researched and drafted administrative rules and bills, trained members of the Business and Public Filings Division, and represented the agency in educational presentations.

Assisted corporate clients with nationwide filing, document retrieval and apostille/legalizations for a variety of state, national and international projects, as well as reviewed company documents for compliance with statutory requirements.

Researched intent and involvement for capital felony murder convictions, ex post facto concerns for the N.C. Racial Justice Act and compared witnesses’ testimony across multiple capital trials for variation.

Researched prosecutorial misconduct for a paper, contributed to a NAACP amicus brief for the N.C. Racial Justice Act and assisted with on-going wrongful conviction cases.

Created targeted advisory briefs for specific corporations. Researched prospective clients. Monitored media outlets and arbitration decisions to compile news briefs about domain name strategies for clients.

Supported public defender and investigator in developing defense theories, taking statements, and investigating criminal events for indigent clients.

Implemented strategic data management system. Translated and edited tasks in Arabic and Spanish for creation of Computerized Oral Proficiency Interview.
