About Sarah Fields

I am currently a Graduate Student and Research Assistant at Columbia University pursuing a PhD in Physics. My research interest include QCD calculations and the computational method of lattice QCD. I am currently worked with the Lattice group at Columbia University under the mentorship of Dr. Norman Christ. I interested in refining these calculations and find interesting computational ways to improve efficiency and accuracy of Lattice QCD predictions. Additionally, I am very interested in the overlapping of physics research and policy. I am specifically fascinated with the collaboration of global security policy and nuclear research. During my career I hope to fill the communication gap between policy and scientific research. Most importantly, I devote my time as being a mentor in my community. I work as a physics, astronomy and math tutor. I have also have worked within the physics department at Columbia to help redesign labs to make the field more accessible. I volunteer with a student organization that helps freshman in physics transition into the field by providing advice, support, and being a friendly face int he department. I previously volunteered as a mentor in the Clemson LIFE program. This is a program that provides students with disabilities the college experience and working on life skills for the goal of independent living. These students have had a huge impact on my life, and I have made life long friendships through being a mentor. I am actively seeking involvement in similar volunteer work at Columbia university, and the New York City area.
