I am employed as part of an occupational health service team, I am attached to a personnel department the DOJ.Occupational health nurses are considered to be leaders in public health in the workplace setting. My role includes:- Sicness Absence Assessments - key communicator between OHS and DOJ in attendance related case management; to assess and report on the fitness of employees; liase with medical advisers; participation in case conferences; provide health advice for employees and to advise the DOJ on the development of initiatives designed to improve the health of their workforce and minimise absences- Pre-employment/Recruitment assessments- The prevention of health problems, promotion of healthy living and working conditions- Understanding the effects of work on health and health at work- Health Surveillance - monitoring the health of individuals and/or groups to satisfy statutory obligations and departmental policy- Workforce and workplace monitoring and health need assessment- Health promotion- Education and training- Counselling and support- Risk assessment and risk management - work place visits to include liaison with Health & Safety personnel- First Aid- Additional Support Activities - participation in the draft of policies; participation in research; provide reports to the to the director & Assistant Director of OHS.
