I am currently employed as the Assistant Manager of The Brink, a city center Micropub in Manchester. We source our real Ales, Lagers, Cider and some of our bar snacks from within a 25 mile radius Of St Anne's Church and are passionate about supporting local producers. I am currently in charge of the day to day running of the bar including beer ordering and supplier relationships, staff training, and developing the business.

For a little over a year I worked regular shifts at The Trackside where I felt I earned the respect of both my colleagues and the regulars by working to high standards and trying to always provide a high level of service. My role required me to work shifts as part of a team and on my own with the responsibility of closing the premises at the end of the night, performing all duties required. An eye for detail and keen product knowledge of the continually changing real ales and continental bottled beer was essential as well as cellar management skills.

Having found myself without a job just before Christmas I took on a temp job, working on a Pop up stall in the Arndale Centre. I quickly learnt about the brand and it’s products and was given regular solo shifts including opening, closing, banking, receiving and sorting of stock as well as customer service. When the stall closed there was unfortunately no jobs locally to suit my needs and I therefore ended my employment with Crabtree and Evelyn.

After previously sending in my CV for another position, I was contacted and asked if I would like to interview for an opening as a Print Buyer in this Print Management Company. During my time here I was required to meet with suppliers and build relations with new suppliers, it was the main focus of my role to get the best job for the best price within the required lead time.

When completing the final fix of the bar I was approached by the manager and asked if I would like to work with her as her asisstant/supervisor. So I had the rare privilage of being able to help to launch the bar/pub that I had helped build. It soon became a preferred watering hole for the locals and visitors alike, officially opened by Pete Waterman CEO of The East Lancashire Railway in June 2012.

I was employed to assist in the building of a bar for the east lancashire steam railway. This was another job where apart from DIYand home decorating, I had no formal training or experience in this type of work. I learned quickly, honing my skills everyday and learning as much as I could in the short time I had, about the materials and tools I was working with. I am very proud of my part in the making of this bar, especially as I was encouraged to put forward suggestions, due to my work history, and several were used.

I was originally employed as manager of the Bury store and was then called upon to manage the Bolton store as well. The business owner was so impressed with my management style he involved me in developing company documents and procedures to strengthen the brand.

This was yet another role where I was required to learn quickly, a lot of it on the job. We, my then partner and I, were given 10 days training and then handed the keys to the pub at the start of December! Though I should say my partner had been working as a relief manager for them prior to this opportunity. It was soon clear that I had a flair for management, building good relationships with patrons and staff early on while setting high standards and making many changes, not always looked on favorably at first. Getting to grips with the paperwork and general duties quickly by February the company were impressed enough to call on me to manage a second pub in York for a short period.

When I took this post it was a new role that had been created across college to fill a void in the support and engagement of it students. The first year was a case of trial and error, feeling our way into the roles and responding to the needs of the students. This was a very challenging role where I really discovered my strengths, and weaknesses, but with the high level of support in my training and development I feel proud of what I achieved in this role. Unfortunately there was a high turn over of staff in our department with the team working without a manager for a considerable time. With gaps between losing staff and finding new ones, and the loss of knowledge and experience for the team each time, it made this role increasingly frustrating and when an opportunity arose I chose to move on again.

I chose to go down the route of working for an agency as it allowed me to get a better understanding of where I wanted to place myself and which Further Education and Training would most benefit me. In my time with Select I had the opportunity to work in many different environments from Primary to College and was always interested in the more challenging roles where I found myself learning as much as the students most days. I worked in a Pupil Referal Unit (PRU), an Emotional Behavioural Disorder (EBD) School and was a notetaker for two deaf students studying hairdressing. It was through this final post where I supported a number of Barnsley College Students that I heard about my next job.

In this position I was required to learn quickly to enable me to work independantly. I achieved this and was training apprentices within 3 months. I really enjoyed the variety that the job gave, whilst being repetitive and routine in method and goal, the constant change of scenery meant that the job was always interesting. But through this experience I re-sparked my interest in teaching and so chose to move on.

This was my first job after University, I had moved from Salford and into my own house in Barnsley. As an American pool and snooker members club there was a certain standard that was required and full training was provided. This position gave me a good grounding in the hospitality and catering industry but was un-challenging and so I chose to move on.
