My career is not a linear one. I worked as a public relations and communications strategist for 20 years before changing careers and becoming a PeopleOps leader in 2019. As a communications strategist, my experience was in the South African technology space where I have engaged with clients across diverse sizes and categories (from co-working spaces to incubators, start-ups to established businesses, fintech to edtech to blockchain and beyond).In 2019 I joined Skynamo as Chief People Officer. It was a revelation to me. I had no idea work could be so simultaneously stimulating, fun and challenging. Skynamo allowed me to use my experience in communications to support the team to create an environment where people could do their best work.I developed an approach to people based on the belief that is possible to have high-performing teams and cultures that don't hurt and burn people out. We can give our people exactly what they need to do their best work. This caretaking of the workspace is the most important job of leadership. It involves everything from how you onboard new members, conduct 1:1s, manage increases and celebrate exits as well as all the big and small moments in between. I love working with companies and people who share this view and want to transform 'HR' (hate this term) into 'People'.
