I've found my niche working in community. The fact it involves sailing, a sport I love is a bonus.Roles that connects your sport and love of people can be hard to find, like trying to find that pesky missing sock! When the opportunity came up late in 2022, I jumped at the opportunity. I couldnโt believe my luck.Like a number of others sports, sailing is a sport that is challenging, every sail is different. It involves team work, communication and needs a leader!A perfect scenario for students, who either have a disability or come from a background of disadvantage, to learn and grow.๐๐ก๐๐ญ ๐๐จ ๐ ๐๐จ?I manage the operations in Newcastle and help connect schools that support young people with diverse learning needs to the Making Waves Foundation (MWF).๐๐ก๐จ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฐ๐?We are a volunteer based not for profit organisation that offers sailing programs at no cost to the young people we serve. Our programs allow for personal growth, development and fun in the great outdoors. Think resilience, courage, teamwork and increased self-esteem for participants. For those participants with a disability, the wind and water can be a calming experience and for all it can help benefit well-being.I could talk for ages about this organisation but more...๐๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ฆ๐๐ Degree qualified in Social Science๐ Oodles of experience in administration, events, last few years as an Executive Assistant.๐ Experienced sailor, boat owner, stand up paddle board enthusiast, water lover๐ Good chatterbox...One of my successes so far is introducing the Winds of Change program to Newcastle in Term 2, 2023. This 8 week term based program has been a huge success so far. In Term 1, 2025 we hope to launch our Wright of Passage program for disengaged youth. Another unique program that will give a number of young people work ready skills, a sense of achievement and optimism for the future.I have found my dream job but it is not all easy going. Demand is high for our programs in Newcastle along with our other permanent locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Geelong and Brisbane. Funding is tight. We rely on grants, sponsors, donors and corporations to keep us going financially.Volunteer recruitment is ongoing. If you think you can help out in anyway...let's connect! ๐ฑ๐งYou may prefer a coffee but I will usually have cup of tea. โHappy to just chat about life too. ๐ โตhttps://makingwaves.au/

Participants will learn trade based skills that can assist them to gain an apprenticeship, traineeship, and or encourage them to enrol in further education. And of course, there is some fun stuff in there too like learning to sail!My husband likes to call me the 'Hunter Boss'. ๐www.makingwaves.au Show less -
