Saurabh Mhatre is a Research Scientist at the BioInteractive Design Lab at Northeastern University. Previously, he was a Senior Research Associate with the Material Processes and Systems Group (MaP+S) and the Center for Green Buildings and Cities at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. Saurabh completed his Master’s in Design Technology at Harvard GSD with distinction, presenting a thesis titled “Embedded Materiality: Super Absorbent Polymers in Architecture.” He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from BSSA, NMIMS University in Mumbai.Saurabh’s work, positioned at the crossroads of design and science, blends aesthetics with analytical rigor to fuel innovation and address complex challenges. His projects span diverse fields, including 3D printing with ceramics and concrete, deployable mechanisms, origami-inspired robotics, smart materials, and phase-changing technologies. He has collaborated with leading institutions such as Harvard GSD, Harvard SEAS, the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, and the Autodesk Build Space.Passionate about fabrication, robotics, AI, digital art, and photography, Saurabh’s interdisciplinary expertise continues to drive his exploration and advancement of cutting-edge design and engineering solutions.
