Save The Loom is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to restoring, reviving, and reforming India’s hand-skilled sectors, with a primary focus on handloom and khadi.Established in the aftermath of the devastating floods that hit Kerala in August 2018—one of the worst in over a century, which destroyed looms, raw materials, accessories, finished goods, and weaver homes—Save The Loom took on a central role in bringing the sector back to life in record time.Our action plan, aligned with the United Nations Build Back Better program, has led to the successful implementation of various projects aimed at strengthening the handloom ecosystem from seed to store, with a focus on empowering the artisans behind the craft. Over the past six years, Save The Loom has successfully positioned Kerala handloom, especially Chendamangalam, as a prominent craft town on the global stage. Our initiatives have ranged from immersive craft tours and creative art collaborations to the establishment of a state-of-the-art research and development center, a modern weaving facility, and a museum dedicated to preserving handloom heritage.As we continue to build a sustainable ecosystem for the sector, we invite all like-minded individuals to join us on this meaningful journey. Together, we can create lasting impact and help preserve India’s rich craft traditions for future generations!
