Save The Loom is a social impact organization working to restore, revive, and reform India’s traditional textile sector, with a deep commitment to empowering handloom artisans.
Born out of a moment of urgency during the devastating Kerala floods of 2018, the initiative began as a response to safeguard the livelihoods of weavers in Chendamangalam—one of Kerala’s historic weaving clusters.
What began as a recovery mission evolved into a long-term movement to reimagine handloom as a relevant, resilient and regenerative craft.
At the heart of Save The Loom is a belief in the value of tradition as a living, evolving force.
Save The Loom’s work spans from the grassroots to the global, integrating local knowledge systems with contemporary design thinking and cultural exchange. It tries to support the ecosystem from ‘seed to store’ investing in capacity building, modern weaving infrastructure and R&D, while fostering collaborations with some of India’s most innovative fashion and craft designers.
This is not just about saving the loom. It’s about the hands that work it, the stories it carries, and the future it can weave.
