Working as both a UK based and deployed Construction Project Manager I have been highly involved in the successful delivery of a number of military construction projects in KAF, KAIA and Bastion military bases, Afghanistan. My responsibilities include but are not limited to, the overseeing and every-day running of projects though-out their full lifecycle; ensuring the local and international material logistics chains are maintained; costing of bids & variation orders; the production and up-keep of works programmes; budget control; manpower management; and monthly project reporting to senior company management. Typical values of the projects I have been involved in range from £500,000 to £14million.

Initially taken on as a site engineer, I was based exclusively at BP Wytch Farm oil field. My duties were similar to those at Worgret (see below), with a greater emphasis placed on QA and method statement/risk assessment production. Working within a small management team I was responsible for completing various civils works, whilst maintaining BP’s high standards of health and safety. Toward the latter end of my time with Trant, I was given the responsibility of site manager for two Esso fuel terminal contracts in Birmingham and Manchester. Works within Trant ranged from simple pipe support installation and bund formation to blast proof base construction and sheet piling operations.

In addition to setting-out works for men and machinery, my responsibilities also included the daily running of site operations. This entailed organising delivery of all necessary plant/materials/labour; maintaining good communications between the client and Worgret head management; daily recording of all works undertaken; and ensuring all operations were carried out in a safe manner, with all the correct PPE and method statements/risk assessments in place. Working as a sub-contractor to various primes we completed an array of groundwork tasks including but not limited to hard and soft landscaping, RC foundations, RC slabs, carriageway construction, deep and shallow drainage, multi-tier RC construction.
