As Public Information Officer for the Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation, and previously (6 years) as the Strategic Communications Manager for Humboldt Area Foundation, I employ a variety of skills including writing, editing, graphic design, marketing, advertising, videography, photography, print production, social media management, event organizing, coaching, mentoring and public speaking. Previously, I served 17 years as the editor-in-chief for the Curry Coastal Pilot newspaper, an award-winning product for a supportive community that appreciated quality journalism, advertising, marketing and promotions. I specialized in beating daily deadlines and staying under budget while developing, producing and delivering editorial and advertising content for the print edition, website and social media. I’ve hired quality employees and built highly-effective teams, created lean, cost-effective budgets and have successfully collaborated with business owners and civic and municipal organizations. My office was right in the middle of the office, where I rolled up my sleeves and did whatever was necessary to get the job done, including fixing the copy machine. When I'm not spending quality time with my family, I have served as a board member and past president of two non-profit organizations. In the last 10 years, I have raised more than $300,000-plus via grant writing, fundraisers and business sponsorships for concerts, festivals, community events and a successful “Music in the Schools” program. In 2014 and 2015. I spearheaded the development, marketing and implementation of a large-scale music festival, working closely with a small army of volunteers, vendors, bands and businesses. As a volunteer board member of American Music Festival nonprofit my duties include designing and coordination of print, radio and digital advertising material, booking talent, negotiating contracts, and coordinating on-site efforts for the city's annual summer concert series. I also operate a successful wedding DJ business for Southern Oregon and Northern California.
