During years 3 to 13 at RSI, I was promoted from Marble Division to run a much larger set of operations, The Wood Cabinets Div. These factories were stalled, not improving. My main assignment was to “turnaround” these down spiraling operations. Factories located in Tijuana Mexico. I was tasked with 3 main objectives. {1} Increase Labor efficiency (stalled at 70%) {2} Solve the lack of inventory control (losses totaling $2 mil x yr) {3} Improve poor lumber yields (floating at about 70%).As well as a dozen or so other needed improvements. I was able to quickly identify and develop teams, and leaders. Within 6 months we launched initiatives such as Lean ; WIP reduction ; scheduling for productivity ; shop floor control ; multi shift prevent maintenance ; machine replacement ; scrap reduction ; kaizen events ; materials reduction in design ; etc. These and other projects/teams were launched in an aggressive environment of competition and reward. Having fun, making improvements.All metrics were trending up by month 15, and the 3 main objectives were well under control. Over the following years, I focused on making improvements permanent, and tackling all the other opportunities. These operations became the fastest growing and largest of the whole corporation. Of all 8 RSI factories, my 3 factories wound up being the largest, with 1,800 employees, and 750,000 sf.

I relocated 50% of their manufacturing operations to Mexico. The focus was on Quality; Efficiency; Schedule adherence ; Scrap. I managed that operation towards continuous improvement, stability, and developing talent. Then, due to our exceptional results in the first 5 years, the company decided to relocate 100% of its manufacturing to my factory in Tijuana. I was promoted to VP of Mfg, and managed a project for construction of a new 200k sf building to hold everything. Including “In’-House” projects for fabricating our own finished board and other previously out-sourced materials. Sales growth outpaced our capacity, and we executed projects for new machinery, and training new Managers.During my time with Polk Audio, I oversaw all Manufacturing departments ; Maintenance ; Safety ; Purchasing ; Local Sourcing ; HR ; Accounting ; Import/Export ; Regulatory Compliance ; Etc.
