I'm having a great time at BitMEX, the leading crypto currency derivatives exchange.We are an incredibly dynamic business where there's been lots of change and lots more to come. I'm finding that my previous time as a PwC Partner and a 28 year career in accounting and tax in which I have had a vast array of experiences is serving me well in this expanding role.Currently, as BitMEX and 100x expands our offering five-fold to attract both the experienced, returning and new traders, investors and punters to the finance-game changing world of CeFi and DeFi, I'm finding that an old dog can actually learn new tricks - but, perhaps more importantly, can apply it's old tricks to a new world. Plus ça change no more.More than a little while ago, I qualified in a medium size accounting practice, where I actually learned debits and credits (which means I’m an instinctive accountant) and wrote my own audit programs for bespoke accounting functions, before turning to the puzzle solving arena of international tax with PwC.Over the years in international tax, I have worked in the UK, the US, Hong Kong and China and I have run varying PwC departments in each. I have run projects in Georgia (the country), Nicaragua and Kuwait, to name a few. I have serviced small owner-managed businesses on small scale issues and run massive multi-million dollar fee, cross-disciplinary, FTSE 30 company reorganisations. I have had market changing projects examined by UK Parliamentary Committees and achieved agreements with Tax Authorities others said were impossible. I have had to adapt to changing markets and practices, not only in the differing countries in which I work, but also as the international tax market has changed greatly, especially over the last 10 years or so (and will continue to do so) .This has left me with a very broad set of non-tax skills that sits very comfortably above the specific tax technical and problem solving skills.
