I worked with the CIO and University Information Technology leadership and staff to deliver top-notch service and support to the University of Utah community. I also worked with other Utah System of Higher Education CIOs on systemwide IT issues. My duties varied greatly, but included preparing executive-level presentations and analyses, legislative requests, and IT policies. I oversaw IT governance for the university and represented UIT on various task forces and commissions.

I wrote and edited a variety of communications for the Information Technology department, including internal and external news releases, IT governance summaries, social media engagement and website updates. I was the main writer, editor, photographer and designer for the Node 4 UIT newsletter, as well as the host of the Node 4 podcast.

I would coordinate, shoot and edit video; monitor and post to social media; moderate online comments; mine web analytics for trends and improvements; build custom analytics reports; perform online content management; and train staff on use of audio, video, databases, social media and web-based tools.In January 2012, I received expert training in multimedia storytelling as a fellow at the Knight Digital Media Center at the University of California, Berkeley.

I oversaw a 12-reporter public safety desk, including assigning and editing daily and advance stories, monitoring breaking news, deploying staff, writing stories and meeting and speaking with both the public and officials about crime coverage. I also ran the paper’s crime and traffic social media feed. High-profile stories I was involved with include Elizabeth Smart's kidnapping trial, Ronnie Lee Gardner's firing squad execution, Ethan Stacy's murder and funeral, and several police shootings.

I coordinated a small staff of reporters to quickly deliver breaking news online and through social media.

I led a three-person team to put out a free 32-page weekday commuter tabloid newspaper, which was distributed along TRAX lines and in downtown Salt Lake City.
