Scott Silva manages Waste Busters’s Zero Waste Facilitation programs at multiple sites across San Francisco. Under his leadership, these buildings have seen the removal of contamination fees, with successful Recology audits and major improvements in building waste diversion, cleanliness, and waste management awareness at a variety of building types. Scott is responsible for coordinating zero waste facilitation services for multiple properties, staffing daily sorting services, and providing training and outreach materials to tenants and staff within large refuse generator accounts. Waste Busters has created a database platform to record and analyze all contamination data submitted by staff. Scott also has a range of project management experience including leading Waste Characterization Studies where his team of specialists would select and sort 10-12 samples a day of landfill waste into nearly 100 categories, and event waste diversion experience. Scott and the Waste Busters team have become very familiar with multiple waste stream types and successfully developed strategies to efficiently perform the work in less time than was budgeted. Graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with a Double BS Environmental Science and Forestry and minoring in GIS systems. On-campus professional activities include working as Zero Waste Research Center Lead Associate at UC Berkeley under the Student Environmental Resource Center on plastics recycling programs on-campus, e-waste disposal, engineering applications to sustainability, and other university-centric waste programs. Interested in working to modernize recycling and waste management services to establish local waste processing systems in order to maximize local municipal economic gain from waste resources, and create environmental justice for parties involved in the waste trade.
