Heading newsroom metrics for the DMN, ensuring all stories are optimized for publication and finding ways to improve their recirculation through actionable data insights by working closely with audience, planning and multiplatform teams. Working closely with editors and reporters across the newsroom to offer real-time feedback and coaching to help frame their stories for digital success. Also overseeing the newsroom's planning desk, helping coordinate big projects and major story coverage across our platforms to elevate our work and ensure audiences see it.

Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex

Led a team of 10 reporters and three editors that served as the front line on all things breaking news for the D-FW area. In its first year under Scott's leadership, the DMN's breaking news team earned 2nd place in the National Headliner Awards in the "Breaking News in daily newspapers, all sizes" category for its coverage of a shooting at Dallas Love Field Airport in 2022. In Year 2, it was honored as the DMN's "Innovators of the Year" and also earned Finalist recognition in Poynter's Journalism Excellence Prizes in the Deborah Howell Award for Writing Excellence category for work on the Allen Outlet Mall mass shooting. The team also earned 2nd place in the Texas Managing Editors awards for Star Breaking News Report for its coverage of the Allen Outlet Mall mass shooting.Scott also served as the Dallas Morning News' interim public safety editor in 2024, responsible for the oversight of all things public-safety related in the D-FW area, including cops, crime and both local and federal courts.

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

Oversaw content for SportsDayDFW.com, the sports website for the Dallas Morning News.Established a workflow to maximize the use of newspaper content and newspaper staff to put out content 24-7 on all levels of our digital platforms.Worked with social media, multimedia projects, mobile, photo, tablets and video.Managed our digital freelance budget and provided monthly web-traffic analysis reports to our staff.Determined our social media strategies and trained individual writers on how to maximize their time on various social platforms.Planned web strategies for a number of sports and events, including the Dallas-hosted Super Bowl XLV, the Dallas-hosted 2010 and 2011 World Series and the Dallas-hosted 2011 NBA Finals.Helped create our "SportsDay Talk" app, a smartphone application that partnered SportsDay with 1310 The Ticket -- D-FW's leading sports talk radio station. The app continues to thrive years later, with 100,000+ downloads and top-of-market usage numbers.

Created and edited content for Freep.com, the website for the Detroit Free Press. Made in-print content viewable for the website, determined its order on the site, and created web-exclusive content on a nightly basis.Contributed in-print coverage for Michigan football and basketball. Helped provide web coverage for a number of schools and professional sports teams, including Michigan football, Michigan basketball, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and college football recruiting events.Helped write and edit content for "Forever Hockeytown," the Free Press' book commemorating the Detroit Red Wings' 2008 Stanley Cup Title.Served as an intern from January-May, 2008, before being hired as a full-time member of the staff in June of that year.

Contributed content for the website as a member of the Sports Illustrated on Campus network of contributors, including a front-page story on SI.com following the death of Bo Schembechler.

Ann Arbor, Michigan

Served as the Managing Sports Editor for the nationally respected college newspaper. Coordinated coverage plans, oversaw beats, developed training programs and provided guidance to members of the 30-person sports staff.Covered a variety of sports beats, including football (two years), men's basketball, and the national championship winning softball team. Served as a columnist for five semesters, including the weekly SportsMonday column for final two semesters at the Daily.Served as a senior sports editor for five semesters prior to being elected Managing Sports Editor for my final two semesters at the publication. Also worked on the online staff for three semesters.
