Human Resources Director
La Marque, Texas
Human Resources Officer (2007 – 2013)Senior HR representative for an $800m community bank. • Part of a team that created an HR department from scratch (no HR department prior to 2007). Oversaw all areas of staffing including candidate selection, compensation research, extending offers, new hire orientation, personnel allocation and exit process.• Promoted from HR Manager to HR Officer. This increased level of responsibility included supervision of the Internal Audit area.• Jump-started several areas that the company had never had before, such as AAP reporting, FMLA tracking, salary administration, EEO-1, VETS-100, a comprehensive Employee Handbook, online job postings, and online payroll processing. These objectives were all implemented for the first time under my tenure.• Conducted all staffing processes, including writing and updating all job descriptions for prospective and current employees.• Directly responsible for all changes to payroll, medical, 401k, and other benefits.• Selected and implemented an online payroll processing system, replacing the company's old-style payroll reporting.• Advised and assisted management and employees in all HR-related matters while ensuring legal and policy compliance. Responded to employee issues and concerns by interpreting applicable HR policies and procedures and making responsible recommendations.• The fair and well-documented management of employee issues was reflected by an unemployment insurance rate at half the state average (company paid out on only 3 unemployment claims). On that point alone my department paid for itself. Furthermore we experienced no EEOC or DOL claims during my tenure.• Good hiring practices helped to contribute to a 20% employee turnover rate in an industry where competitors often experience 30% turnover or more.• Led the approval of a company-wide alcohol and drug testing policy.
