Rail Yard Automation Software Engineer/ Systems Architect

This Software Engineering position is on the technical career path and is part of Operating Services, whose focus is on the Hump Process Control (HPC) system, Flat Yard Process Control (FPC) and Yard Modeling and Optimization projects. The HPC system controls switches, braking components and locomotives, while accepting integrated sensor information to safely and accurately classify rail cars. The FPC projects are client server based to remotely automate control of yard switches, track blue flags and derails to maximize effiency to the yard. The Yard Modeling and Optimization projects use mathematical methods and process modeling and simulation techniques to optimize the business.This position will provide support for the Hump Process Control engineers while learning and understanding all technical details of the HPC system. This position will lead the technical design, development, and implementation of yard modeling and optimization tools. This position will also support the architecture design, development, and implementation of an acceptance test lab and advanced simulation environment for the HPC and FPC systems. The Primary focus will be in software engineering activities: Gather and define technical requirements; plan software development activities; provide technical leadership of onshore and offshore software development teams; perform software development in C, C++, and/or Java; support the implementation, monitoring and maintenance of deployed systems ensuring systems meet functionality, reliability and performance goals.Additional Experience: RTOS Embedded Systems, Industrial Control Systems, PLC, HMI, Python, and predictive analytics.
