An enthusiastic & successful senior software developer, software, electronic & mechanical systems designer, and creative thinker, with a solid understanding of the engineering & business domains.I’ve always had a passion for science and technology, and have been developing electronics and software since childhood. After university I worked for 6 years at BT research labs developing my technical & business experience, and then moved on to consulting for a number of software development companies over a further 11 years. In 2005 I joined Ocado, doing research and development of warehouse management & automation software & hardware. I’ve worked as tech lead, team lead and engineering manager, and am named as inventor on a number of patents. I now work for British Aerospace Digital Intelligence as a development and technical lead.As a programmer, I have a wealth of experience in Java, C++ and assembler, and am highly competent with other languages such as Python, PHP, Visual Basic and PL/SQL. I have strong experience in real-time and embedded systems, multi-threading & multiprocessing, software architecture, data modelling, communications protocols, web services, object orientation, resilience, monitoring and alerting, electronic and microprocessor system design, mechanical design, and CAD.Familiar with both waterfall and iterative / agile development processes, I always strive to achieve automated testing and deployment. I’ve worked with Scrum, Kanban, “Scrumban” and TDD, and am always keen to take everyone’s view into account. I work with stakeholders to define the product, with the teams to design, develop and maintain it, and I operate and participate in 1st, 2nd and 3rd line support. I’m hands on not only with the technical, but also with organisational issues such as recruitment, team building and mentoring, and I’m at my best when we’re doing something that no-one has ever been able to do before – or at least, doing it better than ever before!
