I've worked with many technologies over the years, though my go-to language is Java and I consider myself to be most expert in this area. Whatever I'm doing, I want to be flexible enough to use the right tools to get the job done or the best tools available to me to get the job done.I have always been interested in understanding the world around me which is how I got started in programming. It is also why I have a strong background in math, science, and statistics. In more recent years I have grown to be very interested in psychology and how the way we see the world, drives our behavior. Were I independently wealthy, psychometrics and cliodynamics would be my primary interests.In the world of technology I have many interests. For the past few years I have been learning about and using WebAssembly, using Rust and Java. I can often be found implementing parsers for various data formats and programming languages, or pursuing mathematical investigations. I am also very interested in using technology as a positive tool for growth. To that end I have developed a math quiz tool to help some of my children get some extra math exercise over the summers, and to check that they are competent at grade level. (I'm currently working on a version of this tool that would be useful to teachers.) I also work to make sure that, for my kids, the tools of technology are just as accessible to them as the toys. It is a delight to see them create. Also, to that end, the tools that I design for work are never my fiefdom, but are always built to empower my users to do more.I have a lot of experience designing and building applications from the ground up, and I am both creative and rigorous as a coder. As a tester, I am thorough.Probably the thing that my coworkers find most interesting about me is my heard of alpacas. I usually have between 6 and 8. They help to keep me grounded. Keeping some livestock and working with them is part of how I seek to understand the world around me.
