Program Specialist

Following the merger of the organization's two education programs, I worked as a Program Specialist engaged in the climate crisis, refugee rights, popular education and decolonisation of curricula, and research into the impact of Covid-19 on education and society. As the global pandemic emerged, I was part of a small, agile team undertaking research on the impact of Covid-19 on education systems and its impact on society. My research focus was on Africa, Europe and the UK, engaging with a variety of actors, educators and decisionmakers to understand the implication of Covid-19, and the steps taken to mitigate its impact of education systems. The findings formed the basis of the Education Program's strategic engagement responding to Covid-19. I worked on a variety of funding and advocacy opportunities widening access to education and support for refugees and migrants, globally. This included documenting migrants' experiences in the UK, widening access to opportunities in refugee camps and strengthening networks and actors improving refugee engagement and education opportunities. Within climate change, I developed relationships with actors working on climate justice, engaging politicians, activists and NGOs to strengthen the program's engagement in the field. This included undertaking events on climate change and the impact of disinformation on the climate crisis, and coordinating an art and education project with the aim to elevate youth voices on the climate crisis, culminating in over 400 youth engagements globally.Internally, I was responsible for coordinating and communicating the Education Program's remote working, including signposting resources and planning team building exercises. Program Specialist

London, United Kingdom

I worked on a portfolio widening access to education and opportunities for vulnerable groups and research into funding and advocacy opportunities for education projects. I worked within a small team focused on the right to education. This included women's right to education opportunities, strengthening opportunities for vulnerable groups across low and middle income countries and advocacy on recognising higher education as a human right. I undertook research into the funding landscape for education actors to identify how other local, regional and global funders were supporting education. This helped shape the Higher Education Support Program's strategic focus, identify funding gaps and possible funding interventions such as identifying the narrowing funding opportunities for refugee education, the need to increase funding promoting critical thinking and identifying a growth in STEM related funding opportunities. My role's primary focus was grantmaking leading on several emergency Covid-19 grants for organizations and actors, globally, that required additional support due to the financial implications of Covid-19. I engaged in grassroot advocacy engagement, supporting colleagues in Hungary on education and advocacy projects for vulnerable groups. Finally, my role included research and grantee engagement to ensure funding and support aligned with the program's strategy and to act as a focal point for the organizations and actors we supported.
