As a kid, whenever I would experience hard things, my mom would say, 'How do you eat an elephant,' to which I would reply, 'One bite at a time.' That quote is something that I still say to myself at least once per week, and it has shaped a lot of who I am in both my job as a software engineer, and how I tackle most things in my life. I'm a problem solver who loves figuring out simple solutions to complex problems. A lot of software development issues can be solved before writing a single line of code, and if done right, it leads to scalable, easy-to-read solutions.I used to be in restaurant management, car manufacturing, real estate, education, carpentry, and a few other industries... I used to do a lot of things, and they all prepared me for a career in software engineering. I spent a long time in the workforce bouncing between careers because nothing really fit what I wanted to do day in and day out. I would get an interest, try it out, and then assess if I could see myself doing that for the length of my career. I finally landed on that perfect mix with software development. I've gone down a pretty non-traditional path to end up in a career field where I get to scratch my itch for problem-solving and my desire to contribute on a regular basis, and I get to do it in a way that gives me personal fulfillment too.
