Oak Grove Elementary Teacher

Taught K-5 students in the subjects of physical education and health education. Held team leadership roles for Related Arts, and have coordinated wellness initiatives at the school to include: teacher and staff wellness, trauma-informed promotion and practices, and before-school physical activity opportunities for students. I was a finalist for Teacher of the Year in my second and third year of employment with the school.

Hand Middle School

Taught 6th-8th grade physical education and health education classes. In 2016-2017 started before-school physical activity programs (basketball programs; Ultimate-Ball and Ultimate-Frisbee Club; teacher staff workouts, wellness promotion). I was the assistant coach for football and head coach for wrestling. In 2017-2018 I continued my coaching commitments and I completed my Safe-T evaluations for the school year.

Worked with elementary-aged students from the Raleigh/Durham area in providing science enrichment programs. Our goal was to enhance the content knowledge of young learners, and with that we strived to develop a passion for science that will foster engagement and promote learning in and out of the classroom. I was responsible for teaching programs in the school and lab settings that were age and developmentally appropriate that additionally aligned with North Carolina and national science standards and competencies.

Guided 9-12 grade students through motor skill development, health-related and skill-related fitness activities and applications, and molding a cognitive understanding of health and wellness principles. The foundation of my instructional pedagogy is a focus on social and personal management skill development, with the ultimate goal of creating lifetime movers who are healthy and happy. In addition to my regular teaching duties I worked passionately outside of the normal school hours to provide opportunities for my students to be active and to promote wellness. I created both before and after-school activities that were voluntary for my students and aimed to enrich health and wellness.

Worked with Parks and Recreation Coordinators to ensure recreational activities and games were conducted while adhering to policy and procedure. Was responsible for scorekeeping, field monitoring, equipment setup, and enforcement of policy.

The role as Supervisor at the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center embodied many different functions. All of the Supervisors were considered a vital piece to the overall operation of the facility. Some of the major responsibilities entailed managing a money drawer, supervising 3-6 staff per shift, and maintaining a customer service setting appropriate for a nationally ranked wellness center. Some secondary roles included: responding to injuries and incidents, ensuring proper opening and closer procedures were done correctly, and setting up for events.
