Modeled the quantum behaviour of electrons in solid state systems using analytical techniques and numerical simulations in Python:- Published theoretical models for 2D materials with applications in magnetic memory and topological quantum computing devices. - My thesis developed a theoretical formula and computationally-efficient numerical approach to calculating second-order magnetic properties in Moire systems, enabling efficient calculation of multiband effects requiring sums over >10 million terms.

Mentored 7 new TAs in classroom management and teaching methods to ensure high quality instruction for undergraduate students. Taught undergraduate classes in introductory physics, statistical mechanics, and computational physics using Python.

Led a classroom of 25 students through complex games designed to develop their critical thinking skills. Joined as the company was rapidly growing during their Series A stage.

I developed statistical methods for new particle searches with the U of T ATLAS Group, using tools based on Bayesian inference. We also collaborated with scientists based in Prague and London to extend these methods to the problem of "unfolding", the process of inferring the true distributions of kinematic variables (such as particle momentum) based on the messy, smeared out distributions recorded in the detector.

Oxford, United Kingdom

I worked in the Oxford LHCb group on a precision measurement of the W boson mass. The W boson is mass is known much less precisely than many other elementary particles, despite being a key mediator of the weak force. I worked on finding observables that would help us constrain tricky uncertainties.

I worked with the UBC ATLAS Group on machine learning models for identifying top quarks at the LHC. We made an analogy between the "sequence" of particles deposited in the detector and natural language processing, in order to feed data about particle momentum and energy into a Long Short-Term Memory network (LSTM). This approach was twice as effective as a Deep Neural Network (DNN) at identifying top quarks on similar inputs.
