Sharon Smith is a visionary, a creative and a leader in the areas of mental health and spirituality. For the past 20 years she has provided therapy and spiritual accompaniment; published scientific research and offered faith-based sermons; resourced and developed new ways for faith communities to support mental health recovery. Sharon is recognized as an innovative thinker and effective communicator. Trained as an Occupational Therapist in multi-cultural South Africa, she has a Master of Arts in Theological Studies and a Doctorate in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of British Columbia. Sharon offers spiritual knowledge to mental health professionals and mental health wisdom to spiritual communities. Sharon has served as a Spirituality Facilitator for Vancouver Coastal Health. Most recently, she served in the role of Founding Director of Sanctuary Mental Health Ministries, having been the Executive Director for 5 years. She is currently a Priest with the Anglican Church of Canada. Sharon is also Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of British Columbia, where she continues to teach future therapists on the importance of spirituality and cultural safety.
