Manages and maintain enterprise level and/or large scale computer systems and tools; find and fix issues within systems and implement, monitor, and build tools that automate repetitive tasks to minimize errors and prevent downtime. Optimize overall systems performance through analysis and adjustment of application, operating system, network, and hardware settings and associated code. Responsible for the successful operation of Purdue's central virtualization platforms; including VMware ESX and Microsoft’s Hyper-V. Daily operational support activities include actively monitoring shared resources and working with customers to right-size virtual machines. Actively work with the Windows Team to identify and resolve performance issues relating to the successful operation of Microsoft’s Windows Operating System within the virtualized environment. Tools used to troubleshoot performance issues include, but are not limited to the Sysinternals Suite, xPerf, Perfmon, Netmon, Dart, Wireshark, and WinDbg. Primarily responsible for performance reporting and capacity planning of the shared resources provided by the virtualized landscape. Activities include the identification and collection of data elements using a variety of command line interfaces, PowerShell, and SAS for storage within a Microsoft SQL Server. Reports are created using SAS, Excel, or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Primarily responsible for the installation, configuration, and daily operation of the System Center Operations Manager (OpsMgr/SCOM) landscape for Purdue. SCOM, a component of the Microsoft System Center suite, provides a central repository for performance and operational information for administrators to troubleshoot and tune their respective systems. Also familiar with SCCM, VMM, and SCORCH.

Responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. Participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. Ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and Partners. Assists project teams to help resolve technical issues. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out solutions. Participation on projects is focused on the roadblocks preventing the smooth transition of projects from infrastructure staff to production staff. Primarily responsible for the successful operation of an IBM z890 Mainframe to support enterprise wide application that support all of the core functions of the University. Work from specifications to develop or modify complex software programming applications. Design, code, benchmark, debug and document programs. Applications generally deal with utility programs, job control language, macros, subroutines and other control modules. Plan, document and install the IBM z Series operating system (z/OS). Responsible for coordinating changes and general troubleshooting support. Work with “Application Programmers” to find solutions to problems.

Served as a central resource in Business Services to program reports based on priority needs. Design, analyze, and prepare reports or applications to support planning and decision-making in Business Services departments, the University, and outside agencies. Develop, test, and debug complex queries. Work with customers to provide quality reporting and access to data utilizing personal computer and mainframe technology and tools. Analyze results of queries and present data in usable formats. Interact professionally with internal and external colleagues using effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Office Of The Registrar

Developed data processing and analysis applications for operations related to the Office of the Registrar. Analyzed approved applications and made recommendations for system design and programming. Prepared documentation of existing systems and made modifications to improve existing systems. The environment for applications included a mainframe computer system operating with a mainframe operating system utilizing TSO, JCL, Roscoe, Roscoe RPF’s, SAS, as well as PC based systems utilizing a Windows 2000 operating system and a host of other professional applications to assist with daily operations, including MS Office 2000, PC/SAS, and MS Visual Studio. Provided training for both technical and non-technical staff on a variety of topics including basic application usability and programming (basic and advance levels).
