About Samuel H. Kim

Samuel H. Kim, a Korean national, is the Founding President of the Center for Asia Leadership, an organization dedicated to assisting organizations adapt, thrive, and make a meaningful impact in society. Through a combination of research, teaching, consulting, fellowship, and publications, the Center supports key leaders and decision-makers in Asia's governmental, economic, business, and international spheres. The Center’s work includes analyzing the cultural and systemic influences that affect clients' communities, as well as identifying important trends and innovations that will shape their future. Ultimately, Samuel and his team help its clients redefine goals and priorities, develop robust growth frameworks, and formulate effective policies and new approaches.With over 25 international projects conducted annually, Samuel's work has benefited more than 400 organizations in 83 cities across 32 countries to date. These organizations, among others, include central and regional governments, central banks, parliaments, think tanks, the United Nations, WHO, UNDP, GCF, Samsung, SK, Hyundai, Toyota, GSK, ASML, GE, Carlsberg, Ayala, and Accenture.In addition to his role at the Center, Samuel co-leads the annual Asian Leadership Conference. This conference brings together over 300 global leaders representing 250 entities from 110 countries. It attracts over 3,500 in-person participants and over 100,000 online participants, who collectively explore solutions for the world's most pressing problems. Distinguished past speakers at the conference have included Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Narendra Modi, Joko Widodo, Boris Johnson, Jacinda Ardern, Sanna Marin, Mario Draghi, and the Obamas. Samuel envisions this event eventually becoming Asia's equivalent of the World Economic Forum.Before establishing the Center, Samuel gained fifteen years of experience working across various sectors, including strategy consulting, social entrepreneurship, international development, politics, the military, and Korea's national government. He has served as a Fellow at Harvard University's Asia Center and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Samuel holds an MPA from Harvard University, an MA from Seoul National University, and an LLB from Handong University. He has edited fourteen books to date, covering a diverse range of topics including political reform, innovation, entrepreneurship, economic development, education, and the future of work. His latest book, "The Art of Adaptive Leadership: Why Do Organizations Decay or Get Stuck?", has just been published.

    I currently head two non-profit organizations, namely the Asia Leadership Institute and Acumen Publishing, that exist to address social, business, and policy challenges in Asia in the areas of leadership and innovation, through research, training, consulting, and publications.I conduct annually about 50-60 6-18 month-long teaching, consulting, and coaching projects for leading thinkers and decisionmakers based in Asia. They include, among others, the lawmakers, senior government officials, senior leaders of the law enforcements, board members, senior corporate executives, educators, and senior community leaders. To date, served over 42,000 individuals from over 700 organizationsI co-organize three major conferences (asialeadership.org/conference, alc.chosun.com) in Seoul, Korea engaging over 320 speakers, and drawing 4,500 participants accumulatively; Aspire to turn Seoul Conference as the Asian version of the World Economic Forum on themes and issues pertinent to the continent; Invited the current Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, current Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky, former US Presidents Barack Obama and George Bush, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, former US Vice-President Al Gore as well as other leading political, business, and community figures as Keynote Speakers. I build contents on topics related to leadership, resilience and adaptation, future of work, futures thinking, group dynamics, strategy, decision-making, etc. culminating in publications of 14 books and 16 Harvard Business School-like cases. I oversee the development of an online learning platform (online.asialeadership.org) that offers a wide range of program such as the mini courses, TED-style talks, seminars, talks shows, and masterclasses, most of which are offered to the public as a free of charge.I manage offices in five locations, joined by 9 full-time and 3 part-time staffs.
