    My time at Trigold has largely been spent developing Visual Basic 6 software with extensive use of Microsoft XML, WinAPI, Access, DAO, COM type libraries and ActiveX controls. Projects have included integration with Microsoft Outlook, Secured Loans sourcing, third party integrations via XML, subscription and permissions, Vista compatibility and generating PDF documents.As well as technical work, I am often involved with interface design and other points in iterative development, using prototypes and collaborative feedback. I have performed usability tests with real users as well as market experts. Prospector is regarded in the market as being very user friendly and I have been instrumental in the user experience design. Under the user experience focus, I have undertaken design, research and prototyping for future development using alternative technologies. These include .Net Windows Forms and WPF using Expression Blend and Visual Studio for WPF integration. On top of this user experience work, I have fully developed components in C# undertaking development including Windows Forms, COM interoperable components and some VB.Net Windows Forms work. Frequently, I have made use of my graphics skills to help out with stylish interface design and layout. I have been the go-to person for icon creation due to my graphical skills but also my experience with various icon format issues in Visual Basic 6.Some of the clients that I have worked with are Aviva, Axa and Legal & General and these have involved working closely face-to-face and client visits.

    I worked at Broker Network as a senior developer/team leader overlooking all of the company’s bespoke software, including all aspects of the development process from initial requirements through to testing. The role covered all areas of the system including interface design, system and component integration, data infrastructure for the company’s software, intranet, websites and secure extranets. I was also responsible for the web-server and database administration.Examples of projects that I worked on include a call logging system, personnel database management, timesheet and reporting, various statistical reports and user administration tools. All of these multi-platform components integrated through a desktop toolbar, the intranet and extranet via an SQL Server database.The technologies used were mainly VB6 and classic ASP accessing an SQL Server 2000 database with some projects involving integration with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Crystal Reports. I also developed an ASP.Net 2.0 website and did some VB.Net Windows Forms development, both using ADO.Net.Throughout the development lifecycle, I had contact with internal staff from the various departments to assess requirements, gain feedback and provide support. On a number of occasions, I undertook these same processes off-site with clients.

Work involved a reasonable amount of travel working off-site within the UK, Europe and Canada working in Germany at Donau Online for 3 weeks and Mediasurface’s UK head office in London for 3 months.
