As Community Engagement Manager I was responsible for a team of dedicated and skilled extension staff who work around SEQ. These staff work with a variety of partners (farmers, Councils, State agencies etc) to design and implement projects aimed at maintaining/improving SEQ's Natural Assets (our forests, farmlands, rivers, and coastlines). As part of this role we work closely with the Landcare movement and are heavily involved in adult education in SEQ running between 50-100 workshops a year aimed at providing people with the latest information about sustainable land and water management.

Pine And Pumicestone Catchments

In this role I worked closely with the community and other stakeholders on designing and delivering a range of sustainable land and water management initiatives in the Pine and Pumicestone region. Some of the Projects I was involved in included working on Cats Claw Creeper control in the Pine River Catchment, working with landholders in the Mt Mee area on riverine and vegetation improvement, delivering the Hays Inlet Festival at Redcliffe, and working with Energex and SEQ Water on a 15 Ha Koala habitat restoration project near Petrie.

In this role I was based out of Central NSW (Wellington and Dubbo). I worked with my colleagues and the community to deliver a range of incentive projects with farmers in the region to improve soil health, water quality and grazing management. Towards the end of my time in this role I coordinated the delivery of a $6 million round of funding direct to the local Landcare groups in the region (not done previously) including the highly successful Little River Landcare Group.I was also fortunate to be able to learn from gurus in the field such as Colin Seis and Bruce Maynard (pioneers of the Pasture cropping method) and to be inspired by the spirit and innovation present in the community within the Central West region.
