Undertook the merger and acquisition of SBC Food Corporation in May of 2006 with Happy Valley Food Corporation. SBC is a wholesale food distribution business that supplies over 300 restaurants in the D.C. metropolitan area. SBC has exclusive distribution rights to Kikkoman Soy Sauce and Murray’s Chicken ‘N’ Rib BBQ Sauce (also known as "Mumbo Sauce"). The annual gross sales is on average between $35 to $40 million. Handle and resolve issues regarding compliance with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the District of Columbia’s Health Department, U.S. Department of Transportation, debt collections, worker’s compensation, disability, and federal tax audits.

Provide legal guidance on purchasing commercial and residential real estate, acquisitions, leasing, and selling activities. Research property history and zoning laws. Review mortgage and lease documents to ensure deeds are properly recorded, fair terms are reached with respect to interest rates with banks. Evaluate potential tenants to determine whether a personal guaranty would be necessary for high-risk commercial leases. Facilitate landlord-tenant disputes in mediation/arbitration and handle evictions. Successfully negotiated leases with large franchises such as Starbucks, T-Mobile, & Radio Shack.

Staffed the Consumer Protection, Housing, and Citizens’ Services (Seniors) Subcommittee. Conducted interviews with various key state, local, and federal agency stakeholders in preparing the final report to submit to the Attorney General. Researched the key issues surrounding consumer protection such as debt collection, false and deceptive trade practices, and other financial schemes. Helped draft and finalize a report that set forth several consumer protection recommendations for General Racine.

Advised, researched, and assisted extensively in writing and editing the candidate’s platform. Helped translate the platform into Spanish. Prepared and reviewed employment contracts for campaign workers; negotiated campaign office lease terms. Helped draft candidate speeches; prepared candidate for debate forums and interviews. Assisted in obtaining endorsements from The Washington Post Editorial Board, state agencies and others in local government. Oversaw and undertook compliance with District campaign finance laws with the Office of Campaign Finance.

Assisted the Chief Counsel in drafting of dispositive motions in federal and state court cases. Researched and wrote briefs in cases involving section 1983 claims, the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Federal Medical Leave Act, Maryland Tort Claims Act, Public Information Act, and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Drafted motions to quash subpoenas and for protective orders and responded to FOIA requests. Litigated contract disputes and negotiated the settlement and release of breach of contract cases. Drafted written discovery.

Interviewed employees of New York City Housing Authority involved with disciplinary actions. Researched issues relating to New York City termination/suspension policies and procedures, conflicts of interest, and due process rights of government employees.

Organized and updated the office filing system and online database. Researched documents and agreements involving education and research projects aimed in efforts to promote public health in Latin America.
