Based on the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG) Coal Export Terminal – Rail Flyover, Kooragang Island, New South Wales, Australia. As the site was operational it was classified as Brownfield. From commencement I was responsible for coordination of the Bulk Earthworks, Drainage, Road construction, Concrete/Bridge works, Ground Improvement and wharf construction activities with contracts up to the value of $30 million. Responsibilities include:•Engineering: - On site design and consultation - Implementation of preventative actions and assist with corrective actions - Calculating material quantities from construction drawings - Trending costs for new works - Providing feedback to the client on feasibility and alternative solutions• Quality assurance: -Daily site inspection -Review and approval of Inspection Test Plans, Safe work method statements, construction material and final manufacturer’s data reports inclusive of As-Built drawings and compliance against site specific and Australian standards. -Cost analysis and progress reporting •Contractor interactions: -Liaising between construction contractors and client/operations -Monitoring of daily activities and keeping up-to-date records of labour and plant movements• Safety/Environmental: - Pre-start/toolbox meetings -Routine safety behavioral observations of work crews and risk assessments -Monitoring environmental controls for construction activities •Contracts Administration: -Scoping work and writing contract documents to be tendered -Review and approval of day work sheets including the monitoring of costs

I laboured for Bruce Gardner Homes while I finished high school to gain a better understanding of the construction industry. During my experiences I gained an in-depth knowledge of residential construction and the need to implement safety precautions when on site which has followed through into my current employment. The key skills that I took away from this role was form work, steel fixings, pouring concrete slabs, erecting roof trusses and general fit outs. This experience has been invaluable to my career as an engineer.
