Simon Starr has been performing, recording and touring since 1993. A Victorian College of the Arts graduate on double and electric bass, his teachers have included Geoff Kluke, Andrew Moon, Dave Holland and Gary Peacock. - produced Tal Badani's Jewellery of Love and Death for record label Warners (Europe). - Co-created and performed in the musical Yoel Amar, which received the Israeli equivalent of the Tony Award for Show Of The Year and Best Music (2015). - toured, performed and recorded with OldMan River (Sony). - In 2013, Starr was the Artistic Consultant for the White City festival in Tel Aviv held at Hangar 13 in Namal Tel Aviv, which featured 30 international artists over 10 days. - Program Director for Made In The Desert, a music incubator for the Southern desert region of Israel under the auspices of the Merage Foundation (2012-2014) - Since returning to Australia in 2016, he has been working non-stop on original projects such as 22 piece Yiddish supergroup YID!, the Yohai Cohen Quintet (WOMAD 2019), Grace Knight and Wendy Matthews, Joe Camilleri, Yoni Giraffe, Kafka and The Winos, Deborah Conway and producing singer-songwriter Tom Kline's EP (BMG). In 2016 Starr wrote and performed on the Hush Foundation's album Piece Of Quiet (Universal) including the title track, and wrote the private commission Tfilat Daniel, performed by the Principal Soprano of the Australian Opera, Taryn Fiebig.

YID! has developed tremendous momentum since its first show in 2017: a main stage performance at WOMADelaide (2018) in front of 5000 people that was followed by a headlining performance at Canadian festival Ashkenaz in front of 5000 people (09/2018), which received a standing ovation. The 22 piece Yiddish big band has attracted widespread attention, radio airplay and interest from festival producers and promoters within Australia and abroad. ABC and The Age journalist Jessica Nicholas rated YID!'s 2017 performance at the Kadimah Theatre her no.1 Live Jazz performance for 2017.
