I initially joined Robert Brett as a Business Support Analyst, which whilst providing technical support and manging a server environment included systems analysis and project delivery. The position saw me oversee the technical element of a small contact centre install (Zeacom), document management system modifications, EDI setup, site moves as well as participating in user groups & projects to continue development of the main line of business system.A reorganisation meant an opportunity to manage the Brett groups newly centralised IT support team of 6. This included responsibility for all hardware software and data centre operations for the group. During this time, I managed the organisations support & technical workload, SLA Reporting, acted as the final escalation for technical problems, staff performance appraisals etc.After a period, the Support function was outsourced with 4 team members transferred to the partner company, I was retained by Brett to take on my current role as Group I.S. Technical Services Analyst. Since then I have been heavily involved in the creation of new build data centres, consolidation of infrastructure, user and data migration and establishment of DR processes. I am part of a small team managing its operation working through several technology refreshes. Over the last couple of years have come to specialise in XenApp Application and Desktop delivery. Amongst the other technologies I am working with now are – Nutanix, vmware, AppSense, FSLogix, NetApp, O365, veeam, Cisco Meraki & ISE, SQL, Oracle, Bomgar, Duo to name some.

John Parker & Sons is primarily a steel stockholder and processor, but it also included car dealerships, tool hire and online sales. I was initially employed as PC/Network Technician providing support to 400 users over multiple sites including a large contact centre. During my employment significant investment in IT and infrastructure was made. I was fortunate to be here at that time and soak up the many new technologies that were being deployed across the business. The most prominent of the solutions deployed was a £2m Avaya VOIP contact centre solution, I quickly learnt to administer and develop this system handling:Skills based call routing, agents, queuing, hunt groups, voice recording, wallboard analytics, cabling.I quickly progressed to Senior Network and Communications Engineer, deputising for the Network Manager and gaining responsibility for all voice and data networks. I started my IT career after university with Huyck a paper machine equipment manufacturer. For a few years my time was split between 2 roles - Credit Controller/Accounts Assistant and IT Systems Engineer. I am grateful for this unorthodox start to my IT career as the knowledge I gained working within the Finance dept. has been invaluable and influences my business decision process to this day. Whilst working within Finance I was responsible for:Credit Control – producing aged debtor reports, insuring debts, communicating with customers concerning payment, banking. Fixed Asset – Responsible for the fixed asset register, depreciation and administering the CAPEX process for the Management Accountant.In terms of IT, to start I primarily held a technical support role but as soon as I was given the opportunity to work in IT full time I learnt as much as I could about the manufacturing process and how the computer system was being utilised within it.Huyck had recently moved from their Line of Business system from Unix Informix to MS SQL v6.5 with a bespoke Visual Basic developed interface. A contractor had performed the migration and whilst it covered the basics users were frustrated with the way it worked and, in some cases, it hindered the manufacturing process. I quickly learnt MS SQL and Visual Basic and rewrote the entire interface, taking on board user/business need. I was able to put into practice the knowledge gained from university concerning interface design, systems analysis, software lifecycles, testing etc and tailor the system to the exact needs of the business.At the end of my time at Huyck my job role still included administrating the network but was largely based around the ongoing development of their Line of Business System and laying the foundations of a migration to SAP Business One.Key Skills Gained – Finance, Manufacturing Processes, SQL, Visual Basic, ODBC, Crystal Reports, Windows Networking, Remote Access (Watchguard).
