I am an ecologist. I work in environmental resource allocation and management. This can and often does involve a wide range of aspects, from impact assessment to conservation planning. I am interested in exploring unusual solutions, and the ramifications these may have for biodiversity. Conservation planning, optimal resource allocation, trade-offs, bio-banking schemes, carbon payments, large and small scale. My interests are broad but linked by a common theme: balancing development with biodiversity goals. I work in the commercial consulting sector for Hydrobiology and am a Director of their Singapore operations. Much of my work is based in Southeast Asia, Melanesia and Australia – resource rich and development-hungry regions. This provides me with exposure to, and influence on, large scale developments. I currently collaborate on research projects that aim to incorporate suboptimal, even urban, habitats into conservation plans, and am investigating conservation research bias in developing nations. I recently furthered my education in governance and board processes graduating from the Company Directors Course of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
